Need a Roach Exterminator?
There’s something uniquely horrifying about cockroaches— whether it’s their indestructibility, or their association with creepy creatures from horror movies, when you find a cockroach in your home your first instinct is probably to kill it, or scream, or both. It’s so much worse if you’re facing a whole roach infestation— you may feel like there’s nothing you can do to rid yourself of the mass of creepy crawly insects.
No matter where you live in St. Louis, you have likely run across cockroaches. They are among the most common pests around the world. There are around 4,600 known species of roaches, and 25-30 of these are associated with human habitations.

Fun (or maybe gross) fact: the collective noun for roaches is “intrusion”, which certainly seems appropriate. When you have an intrusion of roaches in your living or working space, you know that no matter where you are, the roaches are never too far away. Roaches multiply rapidly, spread disease, and are a cause of distress and annoyance for people around the world. Here in St. Louis, roaches are a persistent problem, and most home and business owners have to schedule regular cockroach treatments. If they fail to do this, it is only a matter of time before they have a large infestation, because the roaches tend to flee from a treated home and take up residence in an untreated one. At Pure Pest we are experts in eliminating cockroach infestations, but we also believe that when it comes to this particular pest, it’s best to be proactive. The best offense against roaches is a good defense, provided by one of Pure Pest’s experienced and efficient pest control experts.
“Thank you Pure Pest!”
We have had Pure Pest at our home consistently for 3-4 years now. We used to have a big problem with cockroaches and flies. Now that we have had them treating our home, we have not had any issues with bugs.

St. Louis Cockroaches
There are numerous species of cockroaches around planet, however, the ones that you are most likely to encounter in St. Louis are:

American Cockroach:
Are usually 1.5 inches long and have wings just as long as their body. Their color is normally a reddish brown. They also have the ability to fly. These are often found in kitchens and basements, but they prefer to breed outdoors and live on trees.

German Cockroach:
The roaches are the most commonly found roach in the United States. They are only about half an inch long with wings. However, they cannot fly. They are brown or tan and always have 2 stripes on its back. These cockroaches prefer to breed and live indoors, and are often found around the kitchen and bathroom. Yuck!

Oriental Cockroach:
Brown or dark black in color, these roaches love damp and cool areas. These roaches feed in decaying things and garbage, and are a health concern.
A Persistent Pest Requires Persistent Cockroach Control
Roaches are famously tough and resistant to efforts to control them. To successfully resolve your cockroach problem, you need treatment as tough as they are. After all, They been around for over 300 million years, and you have to be really hard to kill to survive that long. Here are some interesting facts about roaches:
Of all pest roaches, the German roach is the fastest multiplying species. A female and her offspring can produce a whopping 30,000 more roaches within a year!
Some roaches can survive anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months without water or food.
Roaches pose considerable health risks. They can contaminate food, trigger allergic reactions and asthma attacks.
Cockroaches can also be carriers of many other gross, dangerous, and generally unpleasant things such as parasites, bacteria, and molds; when you look at a roach, there’s a decent chance you’re also looking at the invisible and unwanted threats they carry around.

It’s also important to note that another danger associated with cockroaches is the risk that DIY elimination efforts pose to humans: we’ve all seen ads for roach poisons on tv, and we understand you might be tempted to buy some and get rid of your roach intrusion by yourself. However, many pesticides contain chemicals that can be harmful and may be dangerous to pets and people. Pure Pest prioritizes your safety, and your technician will know how to get rid of the roaches without putting you, your family, or your fluffy friends at risk.
They usually get into houses in grocery bags, or wandering in from outdoors. Once in, they breed by the thousands.
How to Get Cockroach Treatment?
Since roaches live where there is food, warmth and moisture, sanitation is very important in prevention and control of a roach infestation. Seal food containers, clean up spillages and empty soft drink bottles. These measures will help keep roaches away.

At Pure Pest, we use the latest methods and products to target roaches where they inhabit, and disrupt their life cycles. Roach treatment requires a comprehensive approach tailored to unique situations. Some of our roach treatment methods include:
Bait Trays
We place them in kitchens and bathrooms. Roaches like to live where there is food, warmth and moisture.
Boric Acid
Deadly to roaches but low in toxicity to humans and pets. It is effective in small amounts and retains its potency for a long time. Small amounts should be applied or else the roaches will avoid the treated areas altogether.
Unlike other pests, roach control is done year long—because roaches infest homes all year long! Pure Pest technicians will target key areas for treatment—behind the refrigerator, stove and dishwasher, under the sink, and behind the shower and washing machine.
After Pure Pest applies roach control strategies, you should see a considerable reduction in roach numbers within one to three weeks. It is important to apply the treatment in strategic places and in the right amount.
St. Louis Roach Control
