Our Wildlife Removal Professionals humanely remove Bats, Skunks, Raccoons, Squirrels & other Nuisance Wildlife from Homes and Businesses. Wild animals such as bats, raccoons, and squirrels, can be interesting and even adorable when you spot them outside at a park or during a nature walk. But these same critters—among others—become significantly less appealing when they make the transition from the “great outdoors” to inside your home! It can be frightening and upsetting, especially to children and pets, to be unexpectedly confronted with a confused or curious critter—not to mention dangerous!

The Dangers of Wildlife

When wild animals find their way into your home, they bring a number of threats with them. Among the most deadly is the threat of rabies. According to the CDC, the wild animals that are the most common carriers of rabies are raccoons, skunks, bats, and foxes. The CDC also states that the leading cause of rabies deaths in humans in the United States is contact with infested bats: 7 out of every 10 Americans who die from rabies in the US were infected through contact with bats. To make matters worse, people don’t always recognize a bat scratch or bite, as they can be very small and easy to miss— but no matter how small or insignificant the injury appears, this type of contact can still transmit rabies. Unfortunately, we have more bad news on the topic of rabies: bats, skunks, and raccoons are among the animals most commonly trapped wildlife species in St. Louis.

Given the overlap between the wildlife most frequently removed from St. Louis homes and the animals that are carriers of rabies, it’s very important that if you discover signs of wildlife in your home you take precautions and contact a professional to handle the situation right away. If you or anyone on your property has come into contact with a wild animal, the CDC recommends that you contact a healthcare provider or a public health official right away to assess your risk— rabies is always fatal unless it’s treated immediately. It’s not worth the risk or the worry to try and get rid of an animal intruder without the proper equipment and training; contact Pure Pest instead and one of our experienced technicians will handle the problem in a safe and responsible manner.

Though fatal disease is certainly top of the list when it comes to concerns surrounding wild animal property invaders, it’s not the only one. Depending on the type of intruder you’re dealing with, you may also be at risk of expensive landscaping and structural damage. Moreover, while you don’t want wild animals running around inside your walls or nibbling on the insulation in your attic, you also don’t want them trapped somewhere they can’t find a way out: it can be just as traumatizing to stumble upon the remains of a dead animal as it is to be confronted with one that’s alive.

Our Wildlife Control Services

If you hear strange noises from your attic in the middle of the night, a wild animal may have invaded your home. We’ve already mentioned the risk of disease and noted that animal invaders can cause structural property damage once they’ve gained access to your home. How? They move around within the walls, attic, and crawl spaces of the building, chew on wooden furniture, gnaw on electrical wires, and tear up your insulation. Our experts often find electrical wires with their coatings chewed off; this greatly increases the risk of short circuits and house fires (this type of damage may go unnoticed if you don’t know what you’re looking for, which is one reason Pure Pest wildlife experts don’t just remove trapped animals but also inspect for damage and seal up entry points).

Moreover, even animals that are not infected with rabies can pose health risks, as they leave feces droppings and other germ laden materials behind as they move throughout your home. Depending on how long they’ve been there and what species you’re dealing with, they might try to defend the space they now consider “theirs.” Other factors may also lead to aggressive behavior: for example, a mother raccoon might be extremely aggressive if she’s built a nest in your attic and feels she needs to defend it to protect her babies.

Bats

Brown bats roost in manmade structures in Missouri. They live in small clusters and hibernate for the winter.

Skunks

These cat-sized omnivores produce a noxious odor when provoked that make them hated by homeowners.

Raccoons

Scavengers by nature, raccoons will dig through your garbage and destroy your gardens in search of food.

Opposums (a.k.a. possums)

Another cat-sized scavenger that will take shelter in woodpiles and attics. These omnivores live alone when not breeding. They will raid your trashcans and gardens.

Birds

Birds can roost in attics or gutters. Birds like pigeons can live 3-5 years and grow to 40 cm in length.

Squirrels

Squirrels grow up to 20 inches and can weigh over a pound. They mostly eat nuts and seeds. Squirrels live about 6 years in the wild.

How Do I Get Rid of Nuisance Wildlife?

We are dedicated not only to removing invasive wildlife and pests from your home, we can also save you time and money by helping you prevent further problems. Our wildlife removal services also include replacing damaged insulation and sealing all entry points, thereby preventing future intrusions and making your home safer and more efficient.

Each wildlife control situation is unique, so the first step is an inspection, which is necessary to devise an animal removal plan that is customized to address the type of animal invaders you’re dealing with, how long they’ve been there, and what, if any damage they’ve done. Our experts in St Louis wildlife removal will thoroughly inspect the attic and any other areas where you’ve seen or heard signs of an intrusion in order to identify the species of wildlife we are trying to remove; the specific trapping techniques we employ vary for each type of animal we encounter. We also try to gauge the condition of the roof and exterior in order to determine how the animal is entering the building. Once we have identified the access points, we develop a plan to seal them off so that any future invasions can be prevented. Finally, after the animal has been removed and access points have been sealed, we carry out sanitation treatment to cleanse your home of any microbes the animal would have left behind.
